Why accurate color prediction matters

Color is more than visual—it’s functional, emotional, and brand-defining. In industries like automotive, architecture, and consumer goods, a small mismatch in color under specific lighting can lead to failed validations, extra costs, or lost time.

Beyond aesthetics, color accuracy is essential for quality control and production conformity. Meeting visual tolerances across batches, suppliers, and lighting conditions ensures that what passes digital validation remains consistent in the physical world.

Ocean™ solves this by delivering physically accurate color simulation based on how light truly behaves.

Simulate real-world appearance—Before building a prototype

Ocean™ is an optical simulation software that enables you to simulate color appearance before any physical prototype is made, using science-based methods that account for how materials and light interact at a spectral level.

The power of spectral rendering

Ocean™ uses real spectral data and radiative transfer science—not approximations— so what you see is what you get.

Why RGB isn’t enough

Most traditional rendering engines simulate light and colors using RGB (red, green, blue) – limiting accuracy in color prediction.

However this method doesn’t reflect how light truly behaves in the real world. Human color perception is influenced by the full spectrum of wavelengths in both the light source and the material’s behavior. This lack of spectral precision leads to inaccurate color simulations—an issue when visual appearance impacts not just aesthetics, but also product performance, perception, or compliance.

Ocean™ simulates light in the full spectrum

Ocean™ computes light transport over the full spectrum and not an approximation on narrow spectral bands (e.g., every 5–10 nm). This allows accurate modeling of:

  • Color shifts under varying illuminants (e.g., D65 vs LED)
  • Pigment and multilayer interactions
  • Subtle hue differences in red, green, blue, and beyond
  • Effects like sparkle, translucency, and interference
